Mrs. Lori Warren is in her twelfth year as the Guidance Counselor and Summer Camp Director at Saint Pius X School. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and her Master of Science degree in Community Counseling from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She is a National Certified Counselor (NCC) as well as a North Carolina Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). In addition to being a full-time employee of Saint Pius X School, she serves as an individual, group, and family therapist in private practice. She is looking forward to another fantastic summer!
Miss Andrea Matkins is in her eleventh year working with SPX Summer Camps and is serving as Assistant Camp Director for the fourth year. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and her Master of Education degree from Greensboro College. Miss Matkins is licensed to teach children in grades K-6 and gifted children in grades K-12. Miss Matkins teaches 4th grade at Northern Elementary School. As Assistant Director, she will help Mrs. Warren with the daily management of the camp program. Miss Matkins’ goal each summer has been to ensure every child participating in camp has an exciting, safe, and fun summer while also obtaining enrichment during the camp week. She will now use that goal to help Mrs. Warren maintain the best summer camp program in Greensboro!
Miss Ryan Harrell is in her second year working with SPX Summer Camps! She is a second year student at UNC-Greensboro. She plans on attending nursing school at UNCG and loves working with children! She is looking forward to meeting the campers at Saint Pius X and is available to answer all of your Summer and Holiday Camp questions!
SUMMER CAMP STAFF
Mrs. Cathy Brown is the Director and three year old teacher of Irving Park Preschool, where she has been employed for the past 16 years. She also directs the Saint Pius X Extended Day Program. She has volunteered in the Guilford County School System for the past 20 years as well as for the Boy Scouts when her son was younger. Mrs. Brown has taught Faith Formation at Saint Pius X Catholic Church for ten years and is in her fifth year of running summer camps at SPX. She plans on having a fun-filled summer!
Mrs. Lynn Brunhuber was an assistant teacher at St. Pius for 19 years. She currently teaches art classes to students of all ages after school. Mrs. Brunhuber has taught numerous students in various art media and particularly enjoys teaching oil painting. With a background in Advertising Art and Design, she worked for the J.C.Penney Co and various Ad agencies for several years before coming to St. Pius. Since then she has acquired experience in floral design, interior decorating, hand-painted furniture, and various arts and crafts. Mrs.Brunhuber is able to instill her love of art in all dimensions to her students. She uses positive reinforcement to build confidence and help children discover their own innate creative abilities which she believes all children possess.
Ms. Deanna Ciaccio received her Bachelor's degree from High Point University in 2010. She has substituted, tutored, and taught at multiple elementary schools in Guilford County. She is currently employed as a 4th grade teacher at Jamestown Elementary School. Ms. Ciaccio moved from New Jersey to attend High Point University, where she left behind her family of 3 older sisters, a niece and a nephew. She enjoys reading, watching movies, the outdoors, camping, traveling to new places, running, and playing board games. Ms. Ciaccio loves teaching and working with children of all ages. She is looking forward to meeting all of you this summer!
Mrs. Patty Delaney is currently employed as a kindergarten assistant and has worked at Saint Pius X for the past 14 years. She graduated from Thomas College in Waterville, Maine and then worked as a medical terminologist. In addition, Mrs. Delaney has spent 11 years as a Girl Scout Leader. She is so excited to meet all of you!
Ms. Melinda DeVaughn retired from the US Navy in 2000 as an Information Specialist Technician. During her 20 years in the Navy, she traveled all around the world. She currently teaches 5th grade at Gillespie Park Elementary School. She is the JV girls basketball coach at Saint Pius X School, and has played and refereed basketball for over 20 years. Ms. DeVaughn obtained her Bachelor of Art Degree in Accounting from the University of Maryland and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from North Carolina A & T State University. She is looking forward to teaching the Chess and Computer Camps again this summer.
Mrs. Terry Drosback has been employed as a teacher assistant at Saint Pius X School for the past 18 years. She assisted in 2nd and 5th grades before assisting for the past 11 years in 4th grade. She also worked as an assistant at last year's summer camps and after care. She is the mother of three grown children. She enjoys reading, arts and crafts and working with children of all ages.
Mrs. Barbara Egloff has been employed as a teacher for 34 years and has taught third grade at Saint Pius X for the past seven years. She received her Bachelor's degree in Education from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro and her Master's degree from North Carolina A&T State University. She is a former Teacher of the Year for the Davidson County School System. Mrs. Egloff enjoys working with children and learning with her students. Her third grade students have enjoyed making holiday plastic canvas items for many years and she can't wait to share this unique crafting hobby with you!
Mrs. Christina Foley has a Bachelor's degree in History from Appalachian State University and a Master's degree in Library and Information Studies from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She is currently in her seventh year as the Librarian at St. Pius X Catholic School and also serves as a middle school Battle of the Books coach. She has worked for the past 5 years with the SPX summer camps and is ready for another fun-filled summer! Mrs. Foley has been a shutterbug since she was a little girl and enjoys capturing memories of her 2 young children today! She is excited to be working with young shutterbugs this summer!
Ms. Dana Forrester is the K-3 Computer teacher and JV Cheerleading Coach at Saint Pius X. She earned her degree in Elementary Education from Appalachian State University and she is also an alumni of Saint Pius X! She was a cheerleader in elementary, middle, and high school. Ms. Forrester has worked for Eastern Cheer and Dance Association and St. Pius X Camps in past summers. I am looking forward to returning to SPX Summer Camps this year and teaching cheerleading camp as well as kindergarten kick-off!
Coach Sarah Graves attended elementary school at St. Pius X and has been working at camps for over 11 years. After graduating from Grimsley High School in 2001, she attended UNC-Wilmington and earned a degree in K-12 Health/Physical Education with a Spanish concentration. Sarah lives in Wilmington and teaches health/physical education at North Topsail Elementary School in Hampstead, NC. Sarah recieved National Board Certification in 2010 for early and middle childhood physical education. She is also the Women's Varsity basketball coach at Topsail High School. Sarah loves the outdoors and working with today's youth. Each summer she returns with enthusiasm and many new ways to encourage students to be active and lead healthy lives. She enjoys spending time at the gym, playing basketball and tennis, and spending long hours on the beach. Sarah looks forward to working camps and spending time at home with her parents and sisters while in Greensboro. If you want to be active, have fun, and learn a few new games and skills, look to attend one of Ms. Graves' camps!
Mrs. Lucinda Hernandez is the Physical Education Teacher Assistant for Saint Pius X School. She has been an employee of Saint Pius X for the past nine years, where she has served as a teacher assistant in 2nd grade, 5th grade, Middle School, Spanish, and Physical Education. She obtained her Associate's Degree in Early Childhood Development from GTCC. She has been a teacher and assistant for SPX Summer Camps for the past seven years and is excited about running camps again this summer!
Mrs. Barbara Hultberg received her Bachelor's degree in Sports Medicine from Guilford College and her Master's degree in Elementary Education from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She has been teaching for seven years and has spent the last four of those years teaching at Northern Elementary. Science is Mrs. Hultberg's favorite subject to teach. She is the also the mother of two boys. Mrs. Hultberg is looking forward to a fun science-filled summer!
Ms. Tamara Jackson graduated Magna Cum Laude from NC A&T State University with a Bachelor's degree in Child Development. She has been teaching pre-kindergarten for 11 years. She has taught previously at Sedalia Elementary and Monticello-Brown Summit Elementary Schools, and she currently teaches pre-K at Jamestown Elementary School. She has tutored children in grades 3-5 and enjoys working with all age groups! She is the proud mother of her 14 year old son. Ms. Jackson was a contestant in the Miss Moore County and Junior Miss Pageants. She has been featured in several talent shows and was a participant in the 2010 Triad Idol. She attended Barbizon Modeling School at the age of 16 and was named "Most Talented" in her high school. As you can tell, Ms. Jackson has lots of experience in performing on stage! This will be her second year at SPX Summer Camps, and she looks forward to working with your children in the Drama and SPX Talent Search Camps, where they will focus on building self-confidence and stage presence in addition to developing portfolios.
Mrs. Denise Jones is the Director and four year old teacher at Irving Park United Methodist Church Preschool where she has been employed for the past nineteen years. She has volunteered for many years in Guilford County Schools and enjoys children of all ages. This is her fifth year at SPX Summer Camps. She can't wait to see some familiar faces!
Ms. Mary Ann Parah has been teaching art for 10 years and is currently the art teacher at Northern Guilford High School. She teaches various levels of art including Advanced Placement Art. She obtained her Bachelor's degree in Studio Art from Coastal Carolina University and her teaching degree from Greensboro College. Several of her students have gone on to attend great art schools. Ms. Parah is looking forward to running art camps at SPX Summer Camps again this summer. She has a lot of great ideas for developing art skills and looks forward to sharing her knowledge with her campers.
Mrs. Jennifer Pavone is currently employed as the middle school assistant for Saint Pius X School. She has been an employee of Saint Pius X for the past four years where she has served as a teacher assistant for the fifth grade and spanish classes. Mrs. Pavone has previously been an assistant in various camps for Saint Pius X Summer Camps. She is a native of England and speaks fluent Italian. She also lived in Italy for 15 years! Mrs. Pavone is looking forward to a fun-filled summer!
Coach Jennifer Powell graduated from Rockingham County Senior High School in 1995 where she lettered in four sports all four years, earning sixteen varsity letters. Her jerseys were retired and now hang in the commons area of the school. She went on to play basketball at Greensboro College, where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education. She was welcomed back to her old high school, where she currently teaches Physical Education and Health. Coach Powell is currently the head coach of the Varsity Girls' Tennis team at Rockingham County High School. She was awarded Coach of the Year for the 2008 season. Coach Powell loves teaching sports and health and is looking forward to seeing some familiar faces in the All Sports Camp again this summer!
Ms. Laura Sexton has been an employee at Saint Pius X School for the past ten years. She currently serves as the full-time Teacher Assistant in Mrs. Stetson’s first grade class and has taught religious education to her students for the past three years. Ms. Sexton obtained her Associate's Degree in Early Childhood from Broward Community College in Florida. She enjoys the outdoors, arts and crafts, gardening, photograph, and musical theater. This will be Ms. Sexton’ ninth year teaching at SPX Summer Camps. She is very creative, fun, and energetic, and enjoys working with children of all ages. Join Ms. Sexton for a supersonic summer!
Coach Kristin Shelton received her Bachelor's degree from Guilford College, where she played point guard for the Women's Basketball Team. She is the Physical Education Teacher, Athletic Director, Varsity Girls' Basketball, and Track Coach at Saint Pius X School. She is also the President of the Greensboro Lady Gaters AAU Basketball Organization and currently coaches the U15 Travel Team. Basketball is a huge passion of Coach Shelton's, as she comes from a family of basketball coaches. She grew up in the gym watching her father lead his team to several state championships. Coach Shelton was inducted into the Lyons High School Hall of Fame in October 2005. She is a HUGE Syracuse Orange fan and was honored to be inducted into the same Hall of Fame as Syracuse's Current Men's Basketball Coach, Jim Boehiem. She is looking forward to the opportunity of helping your child pursue his or dream of becoming the next great basketball star!
Mrs. Chrissy Verchick has coached Varsity Boys Soccer at Saint Pius X School. She is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she played soccer. She has lead the Young at Art program, and is currently an assistant teacher in second grade. She has three children and can't wait to be a part of the SPX Summer Camp program again this year!
