FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs)

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT SUMMER CAMP:

1) Are SPX Summer Camps only offered to students who attend Saint Pius X School?

Saint Pius X (SPX) Camps are offered to all area students in rising K-9th grades; thus you do not need to be a current SPX student to attend.  We offer a variety of camps including sports, fitness, arts, crafts, science, culinary, enrichment and much more!

2) What hours and days does camp run?

Camp hours are 9:00 am – 3:00 pm Monday through Friday.  We also offer an Extended Day Program (EDP).  Before Care runs from 7:30 - 9:00 am and After Care runs from 3:00 - 6:00 pm each day.  You do not need to register for the EDP program.  It is available each day to any child that needs to attend.

The first week of camp is June 14 - 18 and the last week of camp is August 9 - 13.  There are no camps offered the week of July 4th.

3) Who will be teaching my child’s camp?

The camp instructor‛s name is listed in each camp description located by week under the “Summer Schedule” pages.  To learn more about individual camp teachers, click on the “Camp Staff” webpage.  All summer camp teachers, assistants and volunteers remain current with the Virtus Protecting God‛s Children program in which they learn how to prevent, recognize, and report child abuse.  SPX School performs thorough and continuous criminal background checks on all employees and volunteers.  Several of our camp staff members are certified in CPR & First Aid.

4) What is the teacher to student ratio in my child’s camp and how many children will be in there?

Our ratio for summer camps consists of approximately 1 adult for every 7-8 campers in the camp.  We do not allow more than 30 campers in our enrichment camps unless there are two sections with two camp instructors and some of our specialized camps limit their total numbers to 15 or less.  Although our sports camps attract larger numbers (between 20-40 campers), we still honor the same 1:7-8 ratio.  In our larger camps, campers are split into smaller groups or teams by age and/or ability.

5) What is the price of SPX Camps?

The standard camp rate is $140 but as you purchase more camps, the rate decreases to as low as $130 per week.  Please see question #6 for more details.  We are sometimes able to prorate camps, but prior approval by the camp director is required. Please contact the camp director at least one week in advance for prorating options.

6) Does SPX Summer Camps offer family or multiple camp discounts?

Absolutely!  In honor of our 10 year anniversary, we are offering family and multiple camp discounts.  You will save money whether you have one child that wants to take six camps or have two children that sign up for three camps each.  The amount you save is based on the total number of camps purchased.  The first two camps are priced at $140 each.  If you purchase a total of three or four camps, the third and fourth camp will be purchased at $135 each.  If you purchase five or more camps, the fifth plus camps are only $130 each!  The more camps you buy, the more you save!

8) Does SPX have a Before and After Camp Care program available?

An Extended Day Program (EDP) is available every camp day.  Before Care begins at 7:30 am at the rate of $2 per day.  After Care is offered from 3:00 - 6:00 pm daily at the rate of $6 per day.  Late fees will apply to any children picked up after 6:00 pm at the rate of $1 per minute.  Both Before and After Camp Care will be held in the Connolly Center (New Gym) located between the main building of the school and CVS.  The EDP is structured into stations around the gym.  Campers choose stations (basketball, jump rope, movie, coloring, puzzles, games, etc.) and may rotate around the stations on the half hour or choose to remain in their original stations.  Payment for EDP is due on or before the Friday of each week attended.  You do not need to register your child for the EDP program; it is available to all camp registrants every day.

9) How do I pay for camps?

Camps can be paid by check or money order payable to SPX School or by using PayPal in our web store.  See Question #6 for more details on partial payments, PayPal, etc.  All camp balances are due by May 28th. If you are registering after May 28th, you will need to send in full payment for camp along with a $40 late fee.  If you need to make other payment arrangements, please contact Lori Warren, Camp Director.

10) What is PayPal?

You may have heard of PayPal as a payment option through other reputable Internet websites.  PayPal allows you to send money online by submitting a secure electronic payment from your credit card or bank account without revealing your financial information to the merchant.  In order to pay for camps with PayPal; you will need to register with PayPal online at www.paypal.com.  There is no cost to register with PayPal.

11) Do I need to pay the total amount due when I register?

A non-refundable deposit of $40 per camp is required in order to register your child before May 28th.  The $40 deposit is inclusive of the camp balance, meaning that if you pay $40 on a $140 camp initially, you will only owe a balance of $100 for each camp by May 28th.  All unpaid balances on accounts are due by May 28th unless payment arrangements have been made with the camp director.  Any payment received after May 28th will incur a $40 late fee.

12) What is your refund policy?

If you need to cancel a camp, you will be refunded the camp total received minus the $40 non-refundable deposit per camp.  Please let the camp director know if your child will be unable to attend camp by the Friday of the week before the camp is scheduled to begin. Refunds are usually processed within 4-6 weeks through our school‛s business office. NOTE: You will not be refunded for partial weeks.  If you have an extenuating circumstance after the camp week begins, please contact the camp office.

13) How do I register my child for a camp?

You can register two ways.  You can complete the Online Registration Form at www.spxcamps.com and click submit to directly send the registration to the camp director.  You will need to mail in your payment or complete your purchase in our webstore.  You can also print a paper copy of the registration form by visiting the camp website and downloading the Printable Registration Form.  The printable registration form will need to be printed and mailed to SPX Camps with your payment.  Separate registration applications should be filled out for each child attending camp.

14) How late can I register?

You may register up until the Friday before the camp week requested if the camp still has availability.  Please refer to www.spxcamps.com or contact the camp director before registering for camp availability.  If you register after May 28th, you will need to include a late fee of $40 with your application and make full payment on your account when registering. SPX campers who sign up by Friday, April 30th will receive a FREE CAMP T-SHIRT, so be sure to register early.

Camps are filled on a first-registered, first-served basis, so make sure your child registers as soon as possible.  All closings will be listed on the camp website, so be sure to check www.spxcamps.com for the most updated information before sending in your registration form.  You will be notified immediately after registering if the requested camp is full and/or adjustments need to be made.  Any cancellation notifications will be made on/or Wednesday, June 2nd.

17) Where should campers report in the mornings?

If your child is attending Before Camp Care (7:30 am - 9:00 am), then he or she should report to the Connelly Center (New Gym) located between the main building and CVS.
Otherwise, all campers and parents/guardians should report to the main entrance of the school (off Elm Street).  A message board will instruct you as to where your child‛s camp will be held.  The camp teacher will be available to sign your child in after 8:55 am each morning.  DO NOT CHECK YOUR CHILD INTO CAMP BEFORE 8:55 am.  This allows camp teachers time to prepare for the day.  If you arrive before 8:55 am, you will need to check your child into Before Camp Care and there will be a charge.

18) Do I need to sign my child in and out of camp each day?

You must sign your child in and out of camp each day.  Campers arriving before 8:55 am will need to check in to Before Camp Care and there will be a charge.  Otherwise, campers will need to be signed in to their appropriate camps by parents and/or guardians.  Campers also need to be signed out of their camps in the afternoons.  If you have not picked up your child by 3:05 pm, he/she will be checked into After Camp Care and there will be a charge.  YOU WILL NEED TO ACCOMPANY YOUR CHILD INTO AND OUT OF THE BUILDING EACH CAMP DAY.  This policy ensures the safety of your child at all times.
